MvTv Scheduler Client: |
| |
|
| |
Hardware Requirements: |
| |
Pentium 4 1.5 GHz CPU with 128 MB RAM, enough free space for your videos (1
GB+). |
| |
|
| |
Software Requirements: |
| |
Microsoft Windows XP (Pro recommended), 2000 (Pro recommended).
Microsoft dot Net 2.0, Windows Media Player 9+ |
| |
|
 |
Installation Notes: |
| |
1. Unzip the contents of the MvTv
Scheduler Server Installation zip package (MvTvSchedulerClientInstall.zip)
to an installation folder, then launch the installation by choosing setup.exe.
Make sure to select "Everyone" when asked "Install MvTv for
yourself, or anyone who uses this computer". |
| |
|
| |
2. Microsoft has moved the dot Net
2.0 download location. Go here to get it if
you need it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
Make sure you get the latest updates from Windows Update. |
| |
|
| |
3. When the MvTv
Scheduler Client Configuration dialogue box pops up, there will
be a few changes you may need to make. |
| |
|
| |
4. If you have more than 1 Client station, change the Client ID to the
appropriate Client ID in the text box. (For the client side only demo, leave the
Client ID as 1). |
| |
|
| |
5. If you don't want the Client to check the Server every minute, change the
default time in the Check Server field. (It's in thousands of a second).
|
| |
|
| |
6. The transfer rate should be OK for most users... no need to change it. |
| |
|
| |
7. Change the Server URL to your MvTv
Scheduler Server name or IP Address.
(change the entry after the "http://"). (For the MvTv Client side only
demo, change the URL to http://66.244.206.182). |
| |
|
| |
8. Change the Server Port to the one that the MvTv
Scheduler Server is set to
listen on. (For the client side only demo, change the port number to 8020). You
will need to allow access to port 8020 at your firewall. |
| |
|
| |
9. Trace listening is for debugging... by default it should be off. |
| |
|
| |
10. Click on Generate Config File, then Close the Editor, to complete the
installation. |
| |
|
| |
11. An MvTv
Scheduler icon should be placed on your desktop. When
double-clicked, it should launch the MvTv Scheduler. If configured properly,
it will start to download the videos scheduled by the MvTv Scheduler
Administrator. When the clips have been downloaded, a playlist file will be
created, and the MvTv Scheduler Client will begin playing the playlist content
at the top of the next hour.
NOTE: The MvTv is a remoting program
that communicates with the IP protocol utilizing ports. If you can't
login to the Admin, check to make sure your firewall isn't blocking
all ports. Either turn your firewall off (just for testing) or add
the required port number as an exception (preferred method).
|
| |
|
| |
Notes: |
| |
|
| |
1. The MvTv
Scheduler Client will contact the MvTv Scheduler Server every minute
(by default) to see if there's a new playlist or scrolling text to display. If
there's new video content that's required to be downloaded, the downloads begin
immediately. When all videos that are scheduled to play in the playlist are
downloaded, a new playlist is downloaded, and the new content will play when
scheduled by the new playlist. If the Internet connection to the Client is
broken, downloads will resume when the Internet connection returns. The MvTv
only plays new content once it is stored on the Client Station. In this manner,
the playback quality isn't affected by how fast or how slow your Internet
connection is. |
| |
|
| |
2. Should you need to make changes to your MvTv
Scheduler Client configuration,
go to the default configuration file location at: C:\Program Files\MicroVideo
Learning Systems Inc\Scheduler\ClientConfigEditor.exe. |
| |
|
| |
3. The MvTv
Scheduler Client can be launched by double-clicking on the MvTv
Scheduler icon on your desktop.
If client your configuration is incorrect you may receive an error.
Your MvTv Scheduler System must have valid licenses to operate, otherwise
you'll receive the error:
"The system is improperly installed and must be shut down". See the MvTv
Scheduler Server Readme for license info. |
| |
|
| |
4. The MvTv
Scheduler Client is meant to be a stand-alone or remote controlled
device, and should be the only application running in the foreground of your PC
other than during testing. For this reason there's no shut down button. The
application can be closed from the Windows Task Manager. Use "CTRL-ALT-DEL",
then click on the Processes tab from the Windows Task Manager. Select MvTvClient.exe, then the "End Process" button. Also, select
ProcessController.exe, then the "End Process" button. |
| |
|
| |
5. The ProcessController.exe is set to restart the MvTv
Scheduler Client at 1:59
am every day, in order to flush out any memory leaks caused by the Windows Media
Player playing videos all day. If more than one ProcessController.exe is found
in the Windows Task Manager, the processes should be ended. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
6.
In a real production setting, make sure you do the following on the MvTv Client: |
| |
|
a) Turn off the PC's
screen saver |
| |
|
b) if the PC will be remote, make
sure you have a way to contact the PC remotely... Windows XP Pro is
recommended as it includes Remote Desktop |
| |
|
c) make sure you have a firewall
protecting the PC and only open the ports for MvTv and remote
control. Microsoft's Personal Firewall works well. |
